Abdominal CT- How to Prepare

You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on the day of your exam. You may be given a gown to wear during the procedure.

Metal objects such as jewelry may affect the CT images and should be left at home or removed prior to your abdominal CT exam. If you have any questions, be sure to ask the technologist prior to the exam.

You may be asked not to eat or drink anything for a few hours beforehand, especially if oral contrast material will be used in your exam. You should inform your radiologist or technologist of all medications you are taking and of any allergies. It is especially important to make sure we are aware if you have had a prior adverse reaction to intravenous contrast.

Women should always inform their radiologist or technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
