Neck CT- About the Exam

Mountain Medical offers neck CT imaging using a special x-ray machine to take detailed pictures of the organs and tissues in the neck. Neck CT exams help radiologists to locate neck injuries, tumors, and other diseases better than plain x-ray pictures. Neck CT exams can also show bone, soft tissues, and blood vessels in the same pictures.

What you can expect during a neck CT:

  • You will be asked to lie down flat on your back on the examination table.
  • The table will start moving, first slowly and then relatively more rapidly when the actual CT is performed.
  • You may be asked to hold your breath during the scanning. Any motion, whether breathing or body movements, can lead to artifacts on the images.
  • When the neck CT is completed, you will be asked to wait until the technologist verifies that the images are of high enough quality for accurate interpretation.
  • A neck CT is usually completed within 15 minutes.

Neck CT imaging can detect or confirm the presence of a tumor and provide information about the size and location of the tumor and whether it has spread. Neck CT imaging also enables our radiologists to determine whether the cancerous cells are responding to treatment.
